Book Review – A Million Suns by Beth Revis

a million sunsA Million Suns is the second book in the Across the Universe Trilogy by Beth Revis. It picks up where the first book ends.

Amy has been living on Godspeed for three months when the story picks up. She is struggling to deal with life on the ship, missing her parents, wanting to be back on Earth, and Elder’s absence. Elder is trying to rule the ship, but running a ship without drugging the population is proving to be a lot more difficult than he thought. Without chemical persuasion, the tenants of the ship are restless  and they are facing problems that haven’t been seen since the plague.

Criminals are taking over the ship, and this could be the start of a devastating mutiny, run by Elder’s own friends.

Orion is still frozen, but he left behind a series of clues for Amy, which leads her and Elder to a startling discovery. Their journey gets more difficult with each passing day, and they have to find a way to save the 2,298 souls remaining on the ship.

I am a huge fan of the Across the Universe trilogy, and after reading A Million Suns I can’t wait to pick up Shades of Earth. I was sucked into this book from the first chapter and it only took about three days to read. Nothing else really got done during those three days, but I read a really good book! I really love the relationship between Elder and Amy. I spend most of the book wanting them to get together, but Beth Revis leaves me in suspense. I also really like the world-building in her books.

I actually got to meet her while I was working an event at my library. And she was fabulous! She kept the teens entertained and gave some really interesting writing advice. She talked about finding inspiration and how she draws out the worlds in her novels, which got me inspired to do the same. Which actually helped a lot! So kudos to Beth Revis for writing an awesome book and giving awesome writing tips!
